Memories on Childhood
It's quite beautiful to look beautiful on my childhood. Everything was new and enjoyable to me.
I remember half of the time I spent was playing video games, the other half was spend either
playing with friends or family, or sleeping. I could spend hours browsing random pages on Wikipedia
without worrying about a single deadline.
What Do You Want to be When You Grow Up?
Going back, one of the events that really shaped my childhood was spent at my great-grandmother's house.
I was just there because my parents wanted to visit. They were talking to my aunt when they landed on the
topic of me. They were talking about how I was really good at math and science and how I should become
a doctor. They told me about this, which I responded to them with "Magiging doktor ako para gamutin ko
kayong lahat!" I was actually completely serious about what I said, but they proceeded to start laughing
uncontrollably. I didn't realize it back then, but this small moment was really one of the events that remained
in my memory, and probably was what started my love for science.
How Do You Get Along With People?
When I think about my childhood, I tend to think about a peaceful place. Like a boundless flower field
where I could spend hours skipping around in and just bask in the beauty of it all. However, not all of it
was so peaceful. Some lessons are learned through mistakes and hardships. This brings me to the second event
which really shaped my childhood. Here, I was just playing Minecraft with my friends in the classroom.
We were having a lot of fun building our own houses when I realized that some of the diamonds in my chest
went missing. My classmate then said he saw my friend steal the diamonds from my chest. I got really angry
since I worked for hours to get that stack of diamonds. So, I punched him in the eyes, right in the middle
of his lenses. He understandably got really mad. My teacher saw this happen, so she called the principal.
She scolded me and we forgot about it the next day. Now, it baffles me how I would decide to do this.
but I believe I learned an important lesson in this moment about being present and making intentional decisions.
Where do I Go Next?
Now that I'm a teenager, I find myself laughing at how silly I was back then. Even when I graduated and
I moved here for high school, I still kept a lot of the weirdness I had in my childhood days. But it was
also here where I learned a lot about being confident in my abilities in school, and in communicating with others
properly instead of deciding things rashly. Even though I didn't completely overcome the conflict of industry
vs. inferiority even until now, small moments in class when I would participate and get praised by my teacher
really paved the way for my future accomplishments. That's why I truly cherish this chunk of my life.
It felt quite small in the moment, but it was truly what shaped me into the person I am today. The one
that tries for excellence even when it is hard. The one that strives to learn new things everyday.
That's why I truly find my childhood beautiful.
